Prescription costs

No state drug-cost program: help with drug costs in Hawaii

Hawaii does not run a program to help older people pay for prescriptions, and Medicare's list of state drug programs has no Hawaii entry.

If your income and savings are limited, you may qualify for Extra Help, the federal program that lowers drug costs. It can lower your Medicare drug plan premium, deductible and copays.

Good to know

  • Hawaii has its own, separate Extra Help limits.
  • Extra Help is a Medicare program for people with limited income and savings. It can help pay Part D premiums, deductibles and copays. You can apply through Social Security or get free help from your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).
