Property tax relief for seniors in Kansas

Kansas has 3 programs that can lower property taxes for older adults: Property Tax Relief Claim for Seniors and Disabled Veterans (K-40SVR), Kansas Homestead Refund (K-40H) and Kansas Property Tax Relief for Low Income Seniors (SAFESR, K-40PT). Each one has its own rules and deadline.

Property Tax Relief Claim for Seniors and Disabled Veterans (K-40SVR)

If you are 65 or older and your household income is $58,041 or less, Kansas refunds any increase in the property tax on your home above what you paid in your base year, the year before you first qualify. In effect, it freezes your home's tax at that level. You file each year with the Department of Revenue.

How to apply

By mail

Applying is free. Nobody should charge you to apply.
