How Nevada is different

Where Nevada's rules differ from the federal rules for LIHEAP heating and cooling help.

  • A state fund, paid for by Nevada's Universal Energy Charge on utility bills, adds to federal LIHEAP money.
  • One yearly benefit covers both heating and cooling, and applications are taken all year.
  • People with chronic illness can subtract out-of-pocket medical costs to get under the income limit.
  • Applications from households with older, disabled or very young members are processed first when volume is high.
