Vermont's income limits are well above the federal ones, and there is no savings limit, so only your income is checked. Vermont ended its SLMB program at the end of 2025 and moved those members into QMB, which pays more.

  • QMB income limit higher than the federal one: up to 150% of the federal poverty level
  • QI income limit higher than the federal one: up to 202% of the federal poverty level

Good to know

  • Starting April 1, 2026, relatives who live with you and depend on you or your spouse for at least half of their support may count in your household, which can help you qualify. The state asks you to call and tell it how many such relatives you have.
  • To get QI you can't be getting other federally funded medical help, such as Medicaid.
