How Georgia is different

Where Georgia's rules differ from the federal rules for SNAP for seniors.

  • Senior SNAP: a simpler application for households where everyone is 65 or older, no one works, and income is fixed, such as Social Security or a pension
  • Senior SNAP households renew every 36 months and need no interview at renewal unless something is unclear or they ask for one
  • No savings test for households where all adults are 60 or older or disabled with gross income up to 200% of poverty, higher than Georgia's 130% limit for other households

Good to know

  • The Senior SNAP age was 60 until Feb. 2, 2026, then 66 until April 30, 2026. It has been 65 since May 1, 2026. Some DFCS pages still say 60.
  • Mail Senior SNAP applications (Form 298) to Georgia Senior SNAP, P.O. Box 450149, Atlanta, GA 31145-0149, or fax them to 678-717-5585.
