Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for seniors in Missouri

Missouri's SNAP puts money for groceries on an EBT card each month.

Missouri keeps a savings limit: a household with someone over 60 or disabled may have up to $4,750 in countable savings, and your home and car don't count. If every adult in your home is elderly or disabled with steady income such as Social Security, approval can last 24 months, and the renewal interview may be skipped.

How Missouri is different

Where Missouri's rules differ from the federal rules for SNAP for seniors.

  • No renewal interview if all adults in the household are elderly or disabled, no one has earned income, and nothing has changed. You can still ask for an interview

Good to know

  • Missouri does not use broad-based categorical eligibility, so the savings limit applies. Your home, vehicles, life insurance, burial plots and retirement savings plans don't count toward it.
  • Since Nov. 1, 2025, Missouri's SNAP work requirement exempts people over 64. People 60 to 64 who can work may need to show 80 hours a month of work or training unless another exemption applies, such as a health reason or caring for someone who needs help.
