Mississippi's SNAP puts money for groceries on an EBT card each month.

If everyone in your home is 65 or older and no one works, you may use a shorter application, usually skip renewal interviews, and stay approved for three years. Mississippi keeps the federal savings limit, so a household with someone 60 or older may have up to $4,750 in countable savings.

How to apply in Mississippi

In person
Contact or visit your local MDHS county office and ask for a SNAP application. If everyone in your home is 65 or older and no one works, ask for the shorter ESAP application (form MDHS EA 904).

Applying is free. Nobody should charge you to apply.

How Mississippi is different

Where Mississippi's rules differ from the federal rules for SNAP for seniors.

  • Shorter application for households where everyone is 65 or older and no one has earnings from work (Elderly Simplified Application Project)
  • For those households, the first interview doesn't have to be face to face, and there is no renewal interview unless the case is being denied or they ask for one
  • Approval for those households lasts 36 months

Good to know

  • Mississippi does not use broad-based categorical eligibility, so the savings limit applies unless everyone in your home gets SSI or TANF. Mississippi follows the federal limits USDA sets each October.
  • ESAP and SSI households have their own line: 1-800-948-4060.
  • If you get SSI, the Mississippi Combined Application Project (MSCAP) lets you get SNAP through a simpler process worked out with Social Security.
  • Mississippi's manual says the three-month time limit for adults without children applies up to age 64. People 60 to 64 who can work and have no child under 14 at home may need to work or train to keep SNAP longer than three months, with exceptions.
  • Since June 11, 2026, Mississippi EBT cards block online and out-of-state purchases by default. You can unlock them in the ConnectEBT app or website.
